• THE GEORGETOWN BASKETBALL HISTORY PROJECT

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the Big East Conference, HoyaSaxa.com and the Georgetown Basketball History Project present "40 For 40: The 40 Greatest Of the First 40 Years of the Big East Conference". The countdown began on July 29, 2019 and concluded March 6, 2020.

Founded by four athletic directors in 1979, the Big East has provided many great moments in college basketball over the past four decades. Big East teams have combined for 10 national championships, 22 Final Four appearances and a remarkable 224 invitations to the NCAA Tournament, all since the 1979-80 season.

This list honors players across the past four decades of Big East basketball. Individuals were selected based on a number of objective and subjective criteria, including statistical records, their impact upon the program at the time of their play, and the records set during their career.

With 89 All-America selections from Big East schools over these four decades, not everyone is going to make this list and if you are looking for players from Rutgers or Virginia Tech, well, you're not likely to find them. In total, 14 different schools are recognized among the 40 selections.
