The first book published on Georgetown athletics dates to 1947, but there have been four books published on the men's basketball program, beginning in 1984 and as recent as 2020.

For readers unfamiliar with any or all of these works, we've created a series of reviews of these books, linked below, including contemporary comments by the authors themselves on how the books came to be and their thoughts on the books today.

• Big Man on Campus: John Thompson and the Georgetown Hoyas (1991)
• Georgetown University Basketball Vault: The History of the Hoyas (2010)
• I Came As a Shadow: An Autobiography (2020)

Two other works on the program were written but not published. In 1991, Sports Illustrated writer and author Ralph Wiley collaborated on an untitled John Thompson memoir but Thompson chose not to go through with the project. A year later, former Wheeling College basketball coach Paul Baker announced a book titled "John Thompson and Georgetown Basketball", but the work was never published and the manuscript was inadvertently destroyed upon his death in 2013.
