A question among fans is whether any players that left Georgetown prior to graduation played in the NBA. Official Georgetown athletic records do not list transfers as part of their NBA connections, and we were able to identify only four that had left Georgetown and ever played in the league:

  • Billy Hassett (1942-1943), the starting forward for the Hoyas 1943 Final Four team, transferred when the program was suspended during World War II. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1946 and spent five years with various NBL and NBA clubs.
  • Anthony Jones (1981-1983) left Georgetown for more playing time at UNLV, and was the Washington Bullets' first round draft pick in 1985. Jones spent three seasons in the league.
  • Anthony Tucker (1987-1988) transferred to Wake Forest after his freshman season, and played one season with the Washington Bullets.
  • John Turner (1988-1989) left Georgetown after one year and enrolled at an NAIA school, Phillips College of Oklahoma, to complete his eligibility. To the astonishment of many, the Houston Rockets actually selected him as their first round draft pick in 1992. Turner lasted only one season.
