• THE GEORGETOWN BASKETBALL HISTORY PROJECT

"In many ways, Duke and Georgetown exemplify the best of college basketball. Schools of high academic regard, schools untainted by common scandal, schools with honest, thoughtful coaches... There's hardly a black teenager in the country who doesn't want to play for Thompson... And there's hardly a high school basketball player, black or white, who scored over 1,000 on the college boards who doesn't have Duke on his short list. Others have to recruit, Thompson and Krzyzewski merely have to select." - Tony Kornheiser, Washington Post

Entering its 115th year, the notable success of men's basketball at Georgetown has been a result of its recruiting, a collection of many of the great names in the sport. Yet, as with any competitive program, for every recruit selected, many more were not, and some of those went on to significant success elsewhere.

Through July 22, 2021 we took a look at 15 of those near-misses - players that simply selected other programs, others that Georgetown may have missed on. Some of these names are well known to Hoya fans, others less so. Many of the players went on to All-America status in college and an NBA career, and one can only pause and wonder how they would have added to the legend and traditions of basketball at the Hilltop.
