Pete Michell (1964-1967)

The first Parade-All-America selection in school history, Pete Michell was a shooting guard from Jesuit High School in New Orleans, the Hoyas' first recruit from Louisiana.

"Pete Michell, a holler guy and showman with a flair for the spectacular, will quarterback the [freshman] club and is dangerous with his long bombs," wrote The HOYA in 1963, and their words proved prescient. Michell averaged 18.8 points per game for the freshman team and cited by Sports Illustrated as a likely candidate for the starting lineup in 1964-65, when it ranked the Hoyas #20 in its annual pre-season poll.

The move into the starting lineup was elusive for Michell, who sat behind Jim Brown and Denny Cesar in his first two seasons. Michell had only 63 field goal attempts in his first two years, before taking a more active role as a senior, finishing the 1966-67 season with a 5.3 point average. His career high was 21 points against Catholic University.

Following Georgetown, Michell served in the U.S. Army, earned a law degree from Tulane, played on the reserve squad for the ABA's New Orleans Buccaneers, and later served as a high school teacher and basketball coach. Today, he is a retired attorney in the New Orleans area.
